Yamaha Motor Canada Ltd. set out to address the Canadian market with a product line-up consisting of snowmobiles and motorcycles. During that first full year, sales for the company were approximately $26 million.

As the 1970's progressed, the company's rapid expansion created a need for a centrally located Head Office. In order to better service the widespread population base, the Head Office operations moved to Downsview, Ontario.

Over the years, there have been many changes to the Yamaha distribution network with the goal of developing the strongest dealership network in the industry. As a testament to the strength of our dealers, there are over 70 dealers who have been carrying the Yamaha line for approximately 30 years, and some that have been loyal to the Yamaha brand since the very first day.

Because Yamaha people are dedicated enthusiasts, we've always had our finger on the pulse of the customer. It is this connection to our products, and the people who use them, that has allowed the Canadian operations to introduce a constant flow of timely products and services.

In 1987, and again in 1993, Yamaha Motor Co. of Japan presented us with the prestigious Presidential Award in recognition of our outstanding efforts within the Canadian market.

Over the years, Yamaha has become involved in the local community. In 1986 we were the first non North American company to sign an agreement with a native group, the Cree Indians of Quebec. We're proud sponsors of many community programs and have formed an internal committee with the aim of raising money for diverse charitable causes. More than just a distributor, Yamaha Motor Canada Ltd. is a proud corporate citizen contributing to the well-being of the communities.

In short, it is the respect and understanding of our customers and the environment in which we operate that has helped propel Yamaha to its leadership position in the Canadian recreational industry. Our aim has never been to merely satisfy our customers' needs, but to exceed their expectations and to, occasionally, introduce a product that may just change the way they live.

In 2004, Yamaha was honoured to be named one of Canada's Top 100 Employers, and was featured in Maclean's magazine. Over 6,000 companies were reviewed for their employment practices, work environments, communication programs, benefit programs, commitment to their employees, as well as several other factors. Those chosen were compared to others in their industry and were found to be leaders in their employment practices.

This accomplishment is a result of our desire to provide our employees with the best possible work environment, and the commitment and loyalty of our employees to make Yamaha one of the most respected brands in Canada.

In 2016, so as to provide enthusiasts with an alternative to traditional financing Yamaha Financial Services was created by Yamaha Motor Finance Canada Ltd.. Fueled with a wealth of industry knowledge and a passion for performance, Yamaha Financial Services is uniquely — and perfectly — qualified to help Yamaha customers enjoy the products they love.

After forty years, Yamaha Motor Canada Ltd. has become a mature, stable company with annual sales more than eight times greater than our first full season. In the next few years, we expect that our sales will increase and reach over $500 million.
